Let's start with Akbar's Tomb because  Emperor Akbar inaugurated the period of building these monuments.

1. Akbar’s Tomb

In 1605, Emperor Akbar began work on building Akbar's Tomb. After the passing of Emperor Akbar, his son, Emperor Shah Jahan, finished building the tomb in 1613. The central, four-story pyramidal building of Akbar's Tomb, which serves as the emperor's final resting place, is its prominent feature. In front of it is a park. There are four gates in the perimeter wall. The south gate, which serves as the primary entrance gate, is the most imposing of these four gates.

The major building material is deep red sandstone. Keeping an eye on one's own grave while still alive is a Tartarian custom that Akbar applied to his own tomb. The grave is located in Sikandra, facing the morning sun, about a kilometer from the grave of his wife.  Deep red sandstone combined with marble is the primary building material used for the project.

At the main gatehouse and all over the monument, inlay panels made of black slate are used. The panel inlays feature artwork, calligraphy, floral motifs, and geometrical designs. The highest floor is a pavilion that resembles a square court and is made entirely of white marble stone. The magnificent arches surround the central courtyard. This was also one of the wonders of the Mughals' time.

2. Fatehpur Sikri

Fatehpur Sikri is yet another Mughal masterpiece. As Fatehpur Sikri is about 40 kilometers away, you can reserve an hourly hotel in Agra. Fatehpur Sikri, constructed in 1571 by Emperor Akbar, is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The monument's architecture was influenced by Arab and Asian tent dwellings. You can see why an interior compound consists of a collection of pavilions arranged according to a specific geometry. The Buland Darwaza, Salim Chisti's Tomb, Jama Masjid, and Queen Jodha Bai's Palace are all located at Fatehpur Sikri.

Fatehpur Sikri, a city largely made of red sandstone, was built by the Mughal Emperor Akbar in honor of the great Sufi saint Sheikh Salim Chisti; its magnificence and uniqueness serve as a fine example of the emperor's architectural skill. It is located 37 kilometers from Agra. The buildings of Fatehpur Sikri were charismatically infused with Islamic and Hindu features because of Akbar's liberal religious views and passion for literature, architecture, and the fine arts.

A wonderfully inspiring setting for a painter's canvas or the visitor's eyes, Fatehpur Sikri's turrets and domes cast shadows and silhouettes against the copper-red sky at sunset and sunrise.

3. Agra Fort

The Agra Fort is another Mughal architectural masterpiece. It is also referred to as Qila-i-Akbari and the Red Fort of Agra. The entire Agra Fort, constructed in 1573 by Emperor Akbar, is made of red sandstone. You may take in views of the Yamuna River and the magnificent Taj Mahal from the fort's pavilions because it is situated close to both. The magnificent Agra Fort is home to numerous architectural wonders, including the Moti Masjid, Pearl Mosque, Diwan-i-Khas, and Diwan-i-Aam.

The majority of the structures inside the Agra Fort are a fusion of many architectural types. The fort's structures have a unique appearance thanks to the integration of these many forms. For instance, Akbar's construction of the Jahangiri Palace successfully combines many regional Hindu styles with Islamic (Persian) architecture.

Other structures either adhere primarily to the Islamic style or have a mix of styles.  The fort has magnificent palaces made of red sandstone and white marble that were constructed by two generations of accomplished architects, starting with Akbar and continuing with Jahangir and Shahjahan.

4. Taj Mahal

Who has never heard of the Taj Mahal? One of the most well-known examples of Mughal architecture is the Taj Mahal. How imaginative and artistic the Mughals could be! In honor of his wife, Mumtaz Mahal, Mughal Emperor Shah Jahan began work on the Taj Mahal in 1631. When you first see the Taj Mahal, your eyes will dazzle since it is made completely of white marble. The magnificent palace is rectangular and covers about 42 acres. The Taj Mahal is made more beautiful with fountains and water systems. It is also called a symbol of love. The architecture of this monument is made in such a way that it changes color according to the time of day and has intricate designs that make others awestruck at some point in time.

5. Baby Taj Mahal

The Baby Taj Mahal was the first building to use pietra dura before the magnificent Taj Mahal. Colored stones are used in the Pietra Dura process to create pictures. The Baby Taj Mahal, which was constructed in 1622 close to the Yamuna bank and ordered by Queen Nur Jahan (the wife of Emperor Shah Jahan), was the first structure made entirely of marble.

Another name for the Itimad-ud-Daulah Tomb is the "baby Taj Mahal." The building's design combines Islamic and Persian elements. The mausoleum is a dome-shaped building decorated with geometric carvings, floral themes, and drawings of trees and other plant life. The design of the tomb served as inspiration for numerous later monuments.
