With excellent surf on two ocean coastlines, Costa Rica is emerging as a powerhouse on the world surfing scene.
The Costa Rica National Surf Team made national history last year when they were crowned the 2015 World Surfing Champions, winning the International Surfing Association (ISA) 2015 World Surfing Games held in Nicaragua.
And in a short couple of months, Costa Rica will host the ISA 2016 World Surfing Games from August 6 to 14 in Jacó beach on the Central Pacific Coast. National teams from 33 countries on five continents will compete against defending champion Team Costa Rica for the title. Costa Rica already successfully hosted the World Surfing Games once, in 2009 at nearby Hermosa Beach.
