Manila has been boosting up its tourism lately by erecting several casinos that could rival the world-class gaming facilities in Las Vegas and Macau. Last year, two casinos opened in Manila’s Entertainment City: Solaire in March and the City of Dreams (CoD) in early December 2014.

CoD was first conceived in Macau. It is composed of several buildings in the famed Cotai Strip, which includes two casinos, several restaurants, and a shopping area. CoD Macau has three hotels that are operated separately by The Crown Towers, Hyatt Hotels Corporation, and the Hard Rock Café International. Mayfair Casinos, an information source for the most exclusive casinos in London and Macau, reports that guests of CoD Macau are given access to shuttle services to and from the airport, ferry terminals, and even borders, making it one of the most convenient casinos to visit in the region.

CoD Manila also has three hotels: Nobu, Crown Towers, and Hyatt Hotel. Its casino is two-tiered, and has nearby restaurants for the customers’ convenience. A unique feature of the casino is the oblong-shaped structure called “Fortune Egg” that will house two international nightclubs in the future. A theme park, which will be built in partnership with DreamWorks Animation, is also set to open in the casino probably some time this year. While the construction of City of Dreams’ shopping arcade is already completed, most of its shops are still non-operational.

CoD Manila’s grandeur on the outside can be compared to that of Macau’s. However, in terms of interior setup, CoD Manila is a bit lacking.

Perhaps CoD Manila’s biggest flaw is its interior setup. The shopping arcade hasn’t been separated well from its gaming area, so the second floor looks like a shopping mall with slot machines. Because of this, kids can actually stand pretty close to the gaming area and watch adults play casino games.

In addition, the slot machines and gaming tables weren’t installed well in the area. The tables and machines are positioned very closely to each other, leaving very little wiggle room for players to stretch their limbs.

Despite CoD Manila’s not-so-exquisite interior setup, you’d still find a lot of things to enjoy in the casino. The floor servers are very polite and accommodating, and the gaming facilities are all technologically-updated. Perhaps if the management would give more space to the casino players and separate the gaming area from the mall better, CoD Manila would have a better feel to it.
