athirapally falls

Athirappilly Falls often described as ‘India’s Niagara’, which stands tall at 80 feet, the water surges around big rocks and cascades down in three separate plumes. Below the falls, the river remains turbulent for about 1 kilometer and then it calms and flows smoothly. The unique 180 meters (590 ft) elevation riparian forest in the Athirappilly-Vazhachal area is the only location where all four South Indian species of hornbills — the great hornbill (the state bird of Kerala), Malabar pied hornbill, Malabar grey horn bill, and the Indian grey hornbill are found living together. This special location is featured in many Indian, western movies ( Baahubali, India’s biggest motion picture and Ravan are few recent works)and its become more famous when Prince Charles of Britain choose this place to celebrate his birthday in Kerala. Click Here for detailed reviews, entry free, visiting time etc
