This UNESCO World Heritage Site sprawls across 6,250 square miles of rainforest, and it's known for its whitewater rapids on the Coppename River; wildlife spotting (especially jaguar, ocelot, puma, giant armadillo, giant river otter, tapir, sloth, eight species of primates, and some 400 species of of birds); Suriname´s highest mountain, the Julianatop (1,230 metres/4,035 feet), and a number of granite domes jutting out of the jungle, the most prominent of which is 804-ft.-high Voltzberg (shown here). It's about a five-hour drive south of Paramaribo, and a number of tour operators offer excursions to here.
