Built in 1798, this octagonal installation was used by the U.S. military through World War I as well as by the Coast Guard during World War II, and was designated a national park in 1925, It's best known for its defense against the British during the War of 1812 - whose assault inspired Francis Scott Key to pen the U.S. national anthem.
