Altitude Information and Safety
This trek starts at 1,460m in Syabrubesi and reaches its highest point at Ganja La Pass (5,130m). You go slowly higher each day, which helps your body adjust. Staying one extra night in Kyanjin and hiking to Tserko Ri helps a lot. After the pass, the trail goes down slowly. Drinking water, eating well, and walking at your own pace are important to avoid altitude sickness. It is always good to have a guide with you for safety.
Weather on the Langtang Ganja La Trek
The best months to do this trek are March to May and September to November. These months have sunny skies, clear mountain views, and good weather for walking. In spring, you can see flowers and green hills. In autumn, the air is fresh and perfect for views. Mornings are cool, afternoons are warm, and nights are cold, especially above 3,000 meters. In winter, the Ganja La Pass may be blocked by snow. During monsoon (June–August), there is a lot of rain, fog, and leeches.
Trek Difficulty – How Hard is the Ganja La Pass Trek?
This trek is hard and challenging. It is not for beginners. You walk 5 to 8 hours every day, sometimes on steep or slippery trails. The day you cross Ganja La Pass is long and tiring, but also the most exciting. The trail after the pass is remote with fewer lodges. You may need to camp. You must be physically fit, have some trekking experience, and go with a trained guide. The reward is huge if you are ready for the challenge.
