On the way toEverest Base Camp, you will see Ama Dablam almost every day after Namche Bazaar. This mountain (6,812 m) is famous for its sharp shape and is often called the “Matterhorn of the Himalaya.” From Tengboche Monastery, Pangboche, and Dingboche, the views are especially close and stunning. Trekkers often stop here to take photos because Ama Dablam stands tall and elegant with snow-covered ridges and a hanging glacier that looks like a mother’s arm protecting a child, which is how it got its name (“Ama” means mother, “Dablam” means jewel or pendant).

This iconic mountain makes the Everest Base Camp trek even more special, as you walk with Everest, Lhotse, and Nuptse in the background while Ama Dablam shines gracefully in front.
