My 3 Favorite Things to Visit in Milan

798px-Milan_Cathedral_from_Piazza_del_Duomo.jpg?profile=RESIZE_710xJiuguang Wang

Italy's business capital is also famously one of the world's top three fashion hubs. But for non-fashionista visitors, Milan may be less of a tourist magnet than the likes of Rome, Florence, or Venice, but still impresses with its culture, its dining, its nightlife, its shopping (of course), and a number of wonderful landmarks and attractions - several unique to the city. So I'm offering up three of my favorite spots to really get a sense of the history of Milan and its surrounding region of Lombardy (one of which you probably won't suspect!).

(And by the way, the local Metro and buses are generally great for getting around, but you might also consider renting a car here for greater convenience and flexibility, as well as day and overnight trips out of town in Lombardy.)

Milan Cathedral

Better known as the Duomo (top), the world's fourth largest church is the foremost emblem of the city, and considered by many Italy's loveliest Gothic building - indeed, one of the loveliest in all Europe. It took nearly 600 years to complete - started in 1386, finishing touches put in place in 1965 - and today is one of the country's most popular tourist attractions. And once you see it up close, you'll understand exactly why. The Duomo's airily flamboyant, "wedding-cake" exterior is faced with white marble and liberally frosted with tall spires, pinnacles, and flying buttresses, as well as thousands of statues and intricate carvings featuring saints, Bible stories, other religious imagery, and geometric patterns. The interior is more sober and less flamboyant, but still impressive indeed, with its soaring 80-meter columns. To top it all off, a visit to the roof is a must, for a grand view of central Milan.

800px-Sforzesco_Castle.jpg?profile=RESIZE_710xParsonsPhotographyNL

Sforza Castle

Not far from the Duomo and built in the 15th century as
the residence and fortress of the Dukes of Milan, the Sforza dynasty, today the quadrangular Castello Sforzesco is one of the city's main cultural focal points. That's because in addition to its lush grounds and impressive architecture, it houses ten remarkable museum collections. These include a pinacoteca (picture gallery) with marquis names like Canaletto, Mantegna, tiepolo, Tintoretto, and Titian; the Museum of Ancient Art, the Egyptian Museum, and the Museum of Musical Instruments. Culture vultures could literally spend a week here alone. But if you're very short on time, make a point at least to visit the small Museo della Pietà Rondanini, focused entirely on the Pietà Rondanini, the Michelangelo Buonarroti masterpiece that was his last work.

800px-Cimitero_Monumentale_%28Milan%29Oktober2016_-_5.jpg?profile=RESIZE_710xZ thomas

Monumental Cemetery

This is the one I mentioned above that you might not have More than just graveyards, a number of the great cemeteries of the world are also showcases of marvelous sculpture and architecture (Père Lachaise in Paris, Recoleta in Buenos Aires, and Havana's Cementerio de Colón come to mind). Milan's Cimitero Monumentale very much falls into that category. It was inaugurated in 1866 and continues to be today a final resting place for the rich, powerful, and/or famous (notables include classical music giants Vladimir Horowitz and Arturo Toscanini as well as actor and Nobel literature laureate Dario Fo). It feels like an open-air museum, full of ornate obelisks, lifelike sculptures, and mini Greek temples. There are sections for Jews and other non-Catholics, and highlights include a memorial to Milanese killed in Nazi concentration camps, along with an amazing recreation in bronze of the New Testament's Last Supper in front of the Cammpari family tomb (of Campari bitters fame). The cemetery's open daily except Monday from 8 am to 6 pm.

The most interesting island of the Dutch West Indies offers friendly people, beautiful beaches, fantastic snorkeling, fascinating historic sites, culture, delicious dining, and fun nightlife, along with yett other atttractions. Capital Willemstad appeals with colorful Dutch colonial buildings (below), with country estates outside the town built in the same style - like a pastel version of Amsterdam).

Also out on the island, other attractions include the caves of Hato, the neo-Gothic church of St. Willibrodus, and the salt pans of Jan Kok, and the Curaçao Liqueur Distillery. For beach lovers, I recommend Playa Kenepa Grandi (aka Grote Knip) because of the breathtaking view and because I like to snorkel there; Cas Abou on the southwest coast and also greatt for snorkeling; and close to Willemstad, Mambo Beach for its party atmosphere. Snorkeling and diving enthusiasts should also not miss Tug Boat and Playa Kalki. The beaches on the west side of the island are especially great.

800px-Willemstad_harbor.jpg?profile=RESIZE_710xMTMelenzez

For those who like adventure and want to be active, I recommend Christoffel Park, where you can climb Christoffel Mountain but also hike at the foot of the mountain (both are great for taking beautiful pictures for your social media or photo book).  At Shete Boka National Park, most visitors love Boka Tabla (rocks and a sea cave where huge waves crash spectacularly), Boka Pistol (another set of rocks hammered by waves making sounds likened to a firing pistol), and of course Supladó (dubbed "the natural jacuzzi"). Some of these places can only be reached with special vehicles, so a guided tour is normally the best and most enjoyable way to do this. The power of nature you see in the park is so impressive!

For many, one of the favorite activities on Curaçao is swimming with dolphins (top) under the guidance of experienced instructors at the Dolphin Academy on Jan Thiel Bay. You will also learn to give the dolphins different signals to get them sing, wave, and turn for you. At the end comes the dorsal ride where you hold the dorsal fins of two dolphins and are pulled through the water like a javelin (the minimum age is eight years and minimum height 1.30 meters).

Near the dolphin encounter, there's also the fine Curaçao Sea Aquarium, which in addition to the exhibits you'd expect includes animal encounters with sea lions, marine turtles, even donning a snorkel and mask to feed sharks (through a plexiglass barrier).

In short, there is the proverbial something for everyone!

For more great recommendations and insight, check out MiCuraVida.com, the blog of Curaçao-based Dutch travel blogger Moony, for an excellent and detailed look at this singular island.

800px-Mt._Kilimanjaro_12.2006.JPG?profile=RESIZE_710xChris 73

Last month I posted on this blog about Africa's six tallest peaks, so I thought I'd follow up with more about the highest and most famous of those: Tanzania's Mount Kilimanjaro (dubbed "Kili," for short). And reaching a maximum 5,895 meters (19.341 feet) in height, not only is it Africa's tallest but also one of the tallest freestanding mountains (i.e. not part of a larger range) in the world.

The Snows of Kilimanjaro

Located 320 kilometers south of the Equator, in northern Tanzania's Kilimanjaro National Park near the Kenya border, this stratovolcano has been dormant for 200 years and has a base around 25 miles across. Vertically, it has three volcanic cones, called Shira, Mawenzi, and Kibo, and it's from Kibo that the summit, called Uhuru, rises. Uhuru (above) is a chilly place, with temperatures as low as -18 Celsius (even colder with wind chill factor).Even so, thanks to climate change Kili's snow caps have diminished by 80 percent since 1912, and its glaciers by 64 percent since 1962.

The Flora and Fauna of Kilimanjaro

Beyond its geology and meteorology, this Tanzanian titan is also complex biologically, with five distinct ecosystems including cloud forest alpine desert, and heathlands, which are home to around 180 species, including for example 25 species of antelopes and 25 types of bats.  Up near the cold, dry summits, the only living things are species of lichen.

The Ascent of Kilimanjaro

There are seven official trekking routes up the mountain, which must be done with a licensed guide and takes six to nine days (gradual ascent is recommended to acclimatize and not fall victim to altitude sickness, which can be quite uncomfortable). The two easiest (and therefore more popular) are called Rongai and Marangu. Every year around 35,000 people attempt to climb this mountain, of which 66 percent manage to reach the summi.Though other mountains are more challenging to climb, here a certain fitness level is still recommended, for trekking long distances at high altitude.

One of the fastest ascents was made by a Swiss-Ecuadorian mountain guide named Karl Egloff, who in 2014 made his way to the summit back in just six hours and 42 minutes. The oldest person to reach the summit of Uhuru peak, at age 89, is one Anne Lorimor, in 2019.

3 Essentials of Vienna

9009440461?profile=original

The capital of Austria boasts an extraordinarily rich history and plenty of attractions, thanks mostly to its legacy as the centre of the Austro-Hungarian Empire of the late 19th and early 20th century, but of course going back much further. So whether you're a Mozart maven or cutting-edge architecture aficionado, Wien has enough to keep you occupied for days on end. But if you happen to be here for only a day or two

For day trips outside town, you'll want to rent a car. But worry not, as there are plenty of cheap car rental spots in Vienna that specifically offer low rates to tourists. In this post I put together the top activities that you can do during your vacation in Vienna. These include:

St. Stephen’s Cathedral

Built of limestone in the 12th century and located in Vienna's old quarter, Innere Stadt, the Romesque/Gothic Stephansdom (top) is iconic especially because of its ornate, colorful glazed-tile roof. Fondly nicknamed "Steffi," it survived two Ottoman Turkish attempts to conquer the city in the 16th and 17th century, as well as attacks during the bitter fighting of World War II. Other notable attributes include the famous Wiener Neustädter Altar, a pair of Gothic triptych, and a complex of catacombs, where the remains of more than 11,000 people include many victims of the Gret Plague of 1679.

House of Music

Vienna is s famously musical city - once nurturing the likes of Beethoven, Haydn, Mahler, and Mozart. And while the Haus der Musik is a small museum, it's fascinating and innovative, featuring not just static relics and exhibits - manuscripts and instruments and such - but also plenty of interactivity, from holograms of Ludwig, Friedrich, and Wolfgang to an entire floor devoted to the Vienna Philharmonic in which among other things visitors can use a virtual wand to "conduct" the orchestra.

Vienna State Opera

Continuing the music theme, the handsome Wiener Staatsoper, founded in 1869, stages some of the world's finest opera and symphonic performances throughout the year. Prime seats go for nearly 300 euros, but a variety of other prices are available, down to two euros for standing room. And if you visit in August-September, or April through June, you may be able to enjoy the performance for free as a "simulcast" out on the front of the building. When no performances are going on, there are guided 40-minute guided tours offered multiple times daily.

As soon as you think about booking any flight ticket or considering to book cheap flight deals, then you need to keep your mind alert with so many important considerations.  This will be including the schedule, flight schedule, price as well as dates of your flight as well.  Booking a flight is an easy task but sometimes finding cheap flight deals is not so much easy to do so. Right here we are discussing some of the common and basic mistakes to avoid when booking cheap flights or deals:

Booking Flights on Weekend

This is one of the biggest mistakes you make! Weekends are always busy when it comes to flight booking.  If you think that you will be getting cheap flights on weekends then you are completely wrong with this concept. This is not true at all.  Normally the airlines will be pushing the prices high at the time of weekdays which you can perform through compare and save.  In the mid of the week, you can choose to have cheap flight deals which are low in prices.  This is an important mistake which you need to avoid all the time while booking flights.

Not Giving a Check at Your Baggage Allowance during Flight

Every single airline has its own rules and customs when it comes to flight booking. But all of them have one similar rule which is about the baggage allowance.  Sometimes the baggage weight will also be deciding the amount of your ticket. In case if you are taking along with you more baggage allowance, then definitely the cost of the airline ticket flight will be high as well.  You should be keeping a close check on your baggage so you can save much of your at the time of flight booking.

Not Having Your Booked Credit Card at the Airport

This is one of the most frequent mistakes to keep away from when booking airline tickets or when it comes to get deals travel.  This is because you have to be aware and plan from the time you book to the day you go to the airport. Many of us don’t always preserve tight track on which credit scorecard we use for reserving a flight, mainly if we have a separate travel card with higher mile rewards plans. But it is vital to have that card with you when you to go the airport.

Any issues with your ticket price will typically require you to present the card to the airline team of workers at the service desk.  If you are not having card with you, then it might be possible that they will force you to pay some extra amount for an extra booking.  Almost no one wants to have two seats on the equal flight when they can solely without a doubt use one until you’ve bought masses of money and just prefer the more space.

So make sure you avoid all these mistakes at the time of booking cheap flight deals! It would be making your whole process so much stress-free.

Taking benefit of student’s flight deals will permit you to shop a giant amount of cash in contrast to what a non-student would pay on a single flight. Because of competition, airline agencies have come up with so many ways of how college students can come up with the money to travel for the duration of college breaks.

Check Your Legal Student ID Documents

If you prefer to make sure that a student bargain will be applied to your airfare, you need to have your modern and legitimate student ID with you. Well occasionally we lose or misplace our ID and we only get a replacement only when we badly want it. Most of the airline corporations or ticketing organizations will require a faxed copy of your scholar ID earlier than they can follow the discounted rate. They need the ID so they can verify your information. Some businesses will even ship an email to your school. Make a list of all those travel agencies who are offering reliable service plans of cheap flights for students. Always try to compare and save one by one to make a suitable choice at the end of the day.

Ask Airlines about student Discounts or Quotes

Another way on how to take benefit of student cheap flights is to name the airways company. Ask them about their student's quotes or discounts and if they offer any tour packages. Every airline holds a distinct coverage so make sure you take down some notes at some stage in your conversation with the representative. Make sure you inform the consultant right away that you are a student and you are interested in an extraordinary airfare cost for students. Be straight-forward so you might not be losing your time and the rep's time.

Choose Different Options of Cheap Students Airline Flights Deals

When looking out for student flight deals, do not settle for one right away. You have to choose amongst 3 (at least) affords so you can evaluate and weigh in the execs and cons. There are hence plenty of websites that cater to college students like Sta travel and Student Universe. If you are not planning to fly every time soon however you will in the future, you can sign up for newsletters so you can be up to date on airfare costs and discounts. Check the newspaper frequently and look for limited-time promotional fares for student flight deals. Sometimes you can also get massive reductions from airline groups that are just starting up.

This was the end of the discussion about how you can take benefit and get deals travel of cheap flight deals which are purposely meant for the students only. We have given you a complete guide about in what sort of ways the students can choose to take advantage of the flight deals and how it can come across to be advantageous for them.  So without wasting any time, choose the best airline company right now and get discounted and cheap flight deal packages to travel to the USA.

3 of London's Most Family-Friendly Spots

9009442677?profile=originalramrodinka

Thinking of visiting London with your family? London famously has plenty to offer you. If you're a history buff, spots such as the Tower of London will be a real delight. Meanwhile, enthusiasts of theater and the arts love the West End theatre district (some even make special trips here just to see the latest shows). The dining scene is huge and multicultural, and of course shopping is a hit with many, from trendy boutiques to the famous department stores. And as far as family-friendly sites is concerned, the number can be slightly overwhelming. So to start you off, here are three that I consider absolutely essential.

(One quick note: riding the Underground here can be a bit confusing, in addition to pricey for a family - for example an one-way adult fare from Leicester Square to Tower Hill will set you back £4.90, though it's less if you buy a multi-fare card - so especially if you're also planning to take day trips outside London, your might consider booking a rental car in advance.)

The Tower of London

Frankly, from the outside, one of Britain's most famous medieval building looks slightly unimpressive as well as grim, but that impression changes once you get inside. Built in the early 12th century in the wake of the Norman Conquest it's actually not a single tower but a complex of various towers and other structures, spread across a dozen acres. In its long history the Tower was used for many things - most notoriously a prison and place of execution (it is of course said to be haunted by the many unfortunately jailed and executed here) - but is also famously home to Britain's royal Crown Jewels. Lines to get in can be long (especially in high season) and the price of admission on the steep side (£28.90 for adults, half that for kids), but most who visit say it's worth it.

Buckingham Palace

Built in 1703 as the palace of the Duke of Buckingham, then bought by King George III and eventually, as of 1837, the London residence of Britain's monarchs, 19 "staterooms" (used for state functions) of its total of 775 rooms are open to visitors for several months each year (the plan in 2020, coronavirus pandemic permitting, is July 25 through October 4). Tours are audio-guided, and it's generally recommended people set aside at least two hours (and keep in mind that until you get out to the gardens, there are no restrooms available). Tickets are for select time slots and should be booked well advance, and they too are also a bit dear, at $33.50 for adults, $30.75 for seniors, kids from five to 17 $18.90 each (under five years no charge); the famous changing of the guard at the front gates, however, every day at 11 am, is free.

Portobello Road Market

Both visitors and locals adore this Saturday flea market (with smaller outdoor markets open on other days) and series of shops extending up and down this street, lined with Victorian buildings, in the Notting Hill district (its popularity boosted especially by appearances in several movies over the years, most particularly Notting Hill in 1999, and the Paddington Bear children's books). The market is especially known for its antiques and fashion, both vintage and contemporary (there are of course plenty of souvenirs on offer, as well). And by the way, near the corner of Portobello and Acklam Road you'll spot a work by the famed street artist Banksy.

Especially since the 1936 publication of Ernest Hemingway's short story The Snows of Kilimanjaro and its 1958 movie adaptation, many people around the world have heard of Africa's highest peak. But there are also a number of other remarkable mountains around the continent - most of volcanic origin - which you may not have heard of but which also provide adventure travelers with scenic challenges. Here are a half dozen of the most prominent of Africa''s ten highest mountains, all eminently climbable (tens of thousands do each year) and many with huts along the various routes of ascent:

Mount Kilimanjaro

Reaching a height of 19,341 feet and its base around 25 miles across, Kilimanjaro (top) is a dormant volcano located in northeast Tanzania very near the border with Kenya, and it's not only Africa's highest but also the highest freestanding mountain in the entire world. Every year around 50,000 visitors attempt the summit, with various trekking routes taking between five and nine days; it's a fairly easy climb compared to many others, but still plenty challenging.

Mount Kenya

Another extinct volcano, nicknamed “the Place of Light,” Africa's second highest mountain reaches 17,057 feet, is located in the center of the country, and is the centerpiece of Mount Kenya National Park. Listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, it has three main summits: Batian, Lenana (the least difficult and most ascended), and Nelion, and its slopes are also home to several Bantu peoples. the Lenana route can be done in four days. (For a view from the summit, click here.)

Mount Stanley

Africa's third highest peak straddles Uganda and the Democratic Republic of the Congo, rising 16,761 feet across several lower peaks as well as a pair of twin summits, Alexandra and Margherita - with, of course spectacular views of the surrounding region, including some amazing glacial lakes and glaciers. It's part of Uganda's also UNESCO World Heritage Rwenzori Mountains National Park, and the ascent takes about a week round-trip.

800px-Mount_Meru%2C_2012.jpg?profile=RESIZE_710xYoni Lerner

Mount Meru

Located in Tanzania's Arusha National Park just 43 miles west of Kilimanjaro, 14,967-foot Mount Meru is the fourth  highest peak, its fertile slopes carpeted with fauna-rich forestland. A more approachable climb than Kilimanjaro, it can be done in four or even three days.

800px-Semien_Mountains_13.jpg?profile=RESIZE_710xHulivili

Ethiopian Highlands

This rugged range in Ethiopia's far north is dubbed "the Roof of Africa" because it's the continent's largest massifs, with a subset called the Siemens Mountains, home to the Highlands' highest peak, Mount Ras Dejen, at 14,927 feet. One travel guide calls it "a mystical world of primeval forests, misty peaks, bizarre plants, and exotic creatures...like stepping into an otherworldly paradise."  You might even spot rare wildlife such as the Walia ibex and Ethiopian wolf on your ascent, which can be accomplished in as little as two days round-trip.

800px-Karisimbi2.jpg?profile=RESIZE_710xAmakuru

Mount Karisimbi

Yet another dormant stratovolcano, and straddling northwest Rwanda and the Republic of Congo, 14,786-foot Karisimbi is part of the Virunga Mountains as well as Rwanda's Volcanoes National Park (known for its mountain gorillas, which some trek organizers include in their itineraries). The ascent is steep but rewarding, and usually takes two days.
Also, snow can be found on its higher slopes during the dry season, June through August.
