"Reading the poet Simon Armitage's "Walking Home: Travels with a Troubadour on the Pennine Way," his walk along the 296-mile Pennine Way from the Scottish border to Edale, Derbyshire. He put together 20 poetry readings along the route to fund the…"
"Just finished a novel by the superlative Graham Greene that I did not know existed, a very early novel called England Made Me set in Stockholm, Sweden. We know of Greene living and writing (and he always got to these places before the proverbial…"
"Picked up again Iain Sinclair's London Orbital, and it is a wonderful read into the corners of London and the tight corners of almost forgotten history -- and how that glorious history is so often squashed beneath developers' brochure copywriting…"
"St John is beautiful, but the second best on earth! Besides, how silly is it even to have a ranking system. But...#1 of the ones I have been to, Kauai; #2, Kerrera, Scotland; #3, Isle of Dogs, London (actually, that's a fib!)."
"I put down -- to recommence very soon -- Iain Sinclair's London Orbital, concerning his 2000 walk around London's M25 motorway, or at least as near as he could get without being splattered by speeding cars. Another great recommendation, written in…"
"Thanks Vicky. I thought Laurie Lee was from Somerset. It borders the Cotswolds, or maybe I am getting confused because of the title of his book Cider with Rosie, cider generally being associated with Somerset.
I am just doing a session of Dervla…"
"Just finished Sir John Mandeville's The Travels of Sir John Mandeville, published in 1365. It is entertaining and informative (I now have stored in my memory both the Anglicised and Greek names for the Three Wise Men, for instance), but one critic…"
"I am currently reading two books that cover travel and two of my big interests or pet delights: birding and amateur English travellers, which includes my own good self, albeit most likely on a less scale. The first tome is American Peter…"
"Nice post, have you been to Cairo yet? The last time I spent time there, people in the hubbly bubbly cafes talked a lot about Mahfouz because he was known to all the cafe owners personally. Like Paul Auster, who used to write in longhand on a…"
"Thanks for the recommendation, Cara. Kauai is among the most beautiful places I have ever been, if not the most beautiful. I am off to France and Italy at the end of next week and have been saving Eric Newby's A Small Place in Italy. He is among my…"
"Golly. I just finished reading Rebecca West's massive opus Black Lamb and Grey Falcon: A Journey Through Yugoslavia, which comes in at an arm-breaking 1,150 pages. It is worth it, though. The scenery is lovingly and richly described, and the…"
"My friend Alex and I just did a pretty mad thing. On May 21 (the day the world was supposed to have ended, remember?), we completed in 15 hours a run from the North Rim of the Grand Canyon to the South Rim...and back. It involved 42.2 miles and a…"
"Currently reading Norman Lewis' collection of travel essays, A View of the World. Lewis, who passed away at the age of 95 in 2003, is one of the finest, if not the finest, travel writers ever to come out of the United Kingdom, and there is some…"
"Recently got back from a trip to Valencia.
The most famous writer from there--at least one I have heard of--is Vicente Blasco Ibanez, who many people would be forgiven for not having heard of, Most have heard of his most famous novel, The Four…"

Looking forward to hear from you, Best Regards. Vivian.
We have noticed that you are a member of the New Zealand Group and in the travel business. We own and operate Lone Kauri Lodge Karekare, a small secluded B & B in the Waitakere Ranges, an area of exceptional natural beauty just under an hour from Auckland’s city centre and airport.
70% of our guests are from overseas and typically they stay with us at the beginning of their holiday to recuperate after a long flight or at the end to reflect on their time in NZ before the journey home.
Good afternoon young Terence, Thanks for that info. Crikey, it's cheap isn't it. Problem solved. We do have a permanent address here so that's no problem. We'll look into it when we're back in January. Are you going home for christmas? We're flying back tomorrow. Quite a shock I suspect it's going to be. Lady xmas party the day I arrive home, not the best way to shine and impress the new ed. Have had a couple of travel feature commissions from a City mag, one gulet sailing in Turkey in May which will be lovely. I love Turkey. So not all gloom on the travel front. Take care until we communicate again. LOL BXX
Not my fault that Fed beat Murry but I wasn't unhappy. Happy Thanksgiving--Oops, not your holiday, though you've probably adopted it. Hope to see you at an event soon.
Hi again, We brits are like busses - nothing for days and then three come along at once. Love your photos. They should be published - or have they?
Now then young Terence, I have an AAA related question for you. Is there any way of having a partial membership with the AAA which includes towing facilities? We're thinking about buying a car out here and as we'd only be here for a few months out of each year, wondered if there was a reduced membership for this sort of thing. Probably not your remit but spookily you got in touch just as we were discussing the possibiltiy. How's life in New York by the way? BXX
Hola. Well, well. If it ain't old Tel. Great to hear from you. I'm in Florida at the moment at it's pissing down. What you up to your end, travelling madly? Looks like I've been laid off travel writing for The Lady since arrival of new editor who seems anti travel and keeps commissioning all her mates. So if you ever need anyone to do anything fabulously cheaply - you know me; cheap is my middle name. However, otherwise wolf is being kept from door. Did you go to that awful WTM in UK? David obviously did, I can't bear it. Take care hon, bxxx
