Punta del Este still going strong

South Americans (especially Argentines) flock to this mix of highrises, midrises, summer bungalows, and a yacht harbor for the beaches, dining, shopping, and nightlife, and there are even a handful of interesting cultural attractions, too. During high season in January and February the population shoots up as high as 250,000, while now, between March and December things are slow and many – but by no means all – lodgings and eateries are closed or pull back to limited schedules.
