On the outskirts of the city and reachable via metro is the ravine (also rendered Babyn Yar) where in 1941 Nazi soldiers massacred some 34,000 Jews. Today the site is home to more than a dozen memorials such as the one pictured here, and it’s an emotional experience indeed to visit.
