Ecotourism/safaris are the country's top tourism draw, and the marquis attraction is its dozen bands of some 460 mountain gorillas in this 124-square-mile, UNESCO World Heritage national park in the country's southwestern corner (that's more than 70 percent of the world's current gorilla population). There are also hundreds of other species here, including arouind 120 of other mammals. There are about a hundred gorilla trekking outfitters operating out of nearby Kigali. The forest is a seven-hour drive from Kampala.
