A tribute to my friend, the late travel media icon Arthur Frommer

The legendary U.S. travel journalist and entrepreneur Arthur Frommer passed away November 18 at the age of 95. Born in Virginia and with an early boyhood in a small town in Missouri, Arthur was a lawyer who became a pioneering and great travel journalist, and who will be remembered as having helped open the joys of travel to the masses. While serving in the U.S. Army in Europe in the 1950s, he got the travel bug, came out with a travel guide for servicemen, and followed up in 1957 with…

What do you wear to Seven Magic Mountains?

Seven Magic Mountains is an art installation located in the Nevada desert, and the weather can be quite hot and dry. Therefore, it is recommended to wear comfortable and breathable clothing, such as shorts, t-shirts, and sandals or sneakers. You may also want to bring a hat, sunglasses, and sunscreen to protect yourself from the sun. It's also a good idea to bring a bottle of water to stay hydrated. While there is no strict dress code, it's important to dress appropriately for the weather and…

  • Looking for two type of people, great photographers and those who have produced mini video documentaries. It would be focused on hotels and destinations. If interested please email me at prconsulting@adrianagallegos.com for more details.
  • Didn't realize I'd be the 1000th member, but COOL! Thanks for the special welcome :)

Actually, I am currently shopping several story angles based on a recent press trip to Marquis Los Cabos' luxury resort (also highlighting the area's other of upscale offerings). If anyone is familiar with publication titles that might take interest in such article focuses as destination spa, holistic health, gastronomy & wine, eco-interest, arts & architectural profiles of world-class resorts, I'd love to hear your thoughts! - Thanks a bunch :)

  • Yes, Allan, the airline dictates the amenities provided in each seat class. According to Seatguru, Air New Zealand's 747 don't offer in-seat plug-ins for Economy class. Good to know about Air Canada, but I don't think that they fly to NZ. They, too, connect w/Air New Zealand, I believe...
  • Stacey,

Wouldn't the plug availability be more up to the airline? Air Canada has plugs in all rows of the planes they fly internationally, but then they also have a much better entertainment package, with each seat having its own TV and a choice of movies, television programs, games and music.

  • Love my Acer Aspire One Pro - upgraded to a longer-life battery when I purchased it. Battery life 6 hours plus. Fits very nicely on airplane drop-down tray. Lighter than my laptop to carry while backpacking. Only drawback, the touch pad is very small so my thumb and pointer finger get cramped. Could get a mouse, but no where to use mouse inflight.

QUESTION: Is there a place on a 747 20 hour flight to New Zealand where I can charge up my 6-hour battery? SeatGuru says no plug-in in Economy... ;o(

  • Allan, in the U.S. many companies adhere to the IRS standard reimbursement, which (this year) is $.51 per mile.
  • What are people charging for mileage these days?
  • We'd like to welcome Media Only's 1,000th member, California-based Laura Baratti.
