Teahupo'o, on the island´s southwest coast, is iconic in the surfing world for its its powerful waves, often reaching ten feet high and sometimes up to 20. And so it was the perfect venue for the surfing events of this past summer´s Paris Olympics. Attendance was reckoned in the hundreds, not thousands, but still, it was a pretty huge deal for this town of around just 1,450.
