The island is dominated by its dormant volcano (no eruptions in 1,600 years!), the Quill, 1,972 feet high and unlike the arid rest of Statia surrounded by moist, lush tropical rainforests and provides interesting hiking, with trails from easy to challenging, and options to descend into the crater itself.
