Erdene Zuu, Mongolia's oldest Buddhist monastery

The country’s oldest surviving Buddhist monastery was built in the 1580s when Buddhism was declared Mongolia's state religion. Today part of the Orkhon Valley Cultural Landscape UNESCO World Heritage Site, it's both an active monastery and a museum open to visitors.
