In a lovely, lakeside and forested setting 40 minutes north of Chișinău, the Mănăstirea Căpriana is one of Moldavia's oldest - founded in 1429 and rebuilt in the mid-16th century - and widely considered its most beautiful. Also considered a cradle of Moldavian culture, the complex consists of around a dozen buildings, of which three are churches.
