There are ten space museums and centers in Europe (half of which are in Russia), and the biggest in western Europe is "Space City" on the outskirts of Toulouse, in the south of France, which is not coincidentally home to the continent´s biggest aerospace industry. Opened in 1997 and covering 3-5 hectres (nine acres), the Cité de l Ëspace includes full-size mock-ups of the European Space Agency´s Ariane 5 rocket (at left in this photo) as well as the Soviet Union/Russia´s Soyuz and Mir (at right in photo) modules. There´s also - of course - not one but two planetariums; an IMAX theater; a museum with numerous exhibits (some interactive); and a powerful telescope visitors can peer through.
