Constructed between the 3rd century BCE and the 16th century CE, these blocks and pillars carved from a stone called laterite are associated with burial practices. They´re found in the regions of Wanar (three hours inland from Dakar) and Sine Ngayêne (pictured here, the largest of the sites with more than 1,100 stones, 3½ hours away), as well as at a two other locations now in the neighbouring Gambia.
