The Casamance´s main ethnic group, the Jola

Living mostly in small villages these people - who constitute around four percent of the country´s population  and whose language is one its half dozen official languages - make their living by cultivating rice peanuts, and yams; making palm wine; fishing, raising cattle, and gathering honey. Their traditional religion is animism, but more than half have become Muslims.
