County Contest as Suffolk launches bid for England's Festival Capital title against Sussex
Suffolk County, located in the East of England Region, has just launched an audacious campaign to position itself as the 'Festival Capital of the UK'. A Festivals Suffolk brand name has been created to highlight the number and quality of events - Latitude, Newmarket Festival, Aldeburgh Festival and Harvest at Jimmy's Farm - are all being featured through a dedicated campaign website.
Quoted in Destination UK, the leading tourism trade periodical, Choose Suffolk's tourism manager, Alex Paul said: "Festivals are increasingly driving traffic to destinations and are a great way to connect with new audiences."
The Suffolk launch has not gone unnoticed by England's Festival County - Sussex - home to the greatest concentration of international festivals of any English county. Sussex-based destination brand developer, Alan 'Brand' Williamson, added: "From Glorious Goodwood to the Festival of Speed to Brighton Festival to Glyndebourne Opera to Hickstead Showjumping to Eastbourne Womens Tennis to Cowdray Park Polo to Lewes Bonfire, Sussex is home to some of the world's most talented festival organisers and promoters - with new exciting festivals coming on-stream for Olympic year 2012: Live-at-the-Lake: Greater Gatwick's Greatest Gig and supporting show SIMposia: A Fest of SIMulating SIMperiences, to name just two."
Summer 2010 is going to be an interesting season as the Festival Foes square up to do battle for the coveted title, with contender Suffolk in the blue corner and the champion Sussex in the red corner.
Let the Fest Fight begin....
