Warsaw´s UNESCO World Heritage Old Town

The Stare Miasto is the Polish capital´s oldest district - dating back to the 13th century - and is composed of mostly 17th- and 18th-century structures, including the Royal Castle, the city walls and Barbican, the Rynek Starego Miasta (Old Town Market Square), and Archikatedra Swatego Jana (Archcathedral of St. John). It´s unusual among UNESCO Sites because the city centre was largely obliterated during World War II and what we see today is mostly a postwar reconstruction, not the original.
