This is a big weekend for history buffs - the Battle of Germantown is fought again. (we lose -- again) A great annual event even better this year, beer lovers, because it closes with an Oktoberfest at Grumblethorpe. And a cute addition is the dog exchange between Gen. Washington and Gen. Howe.

Linda, you must have ESP: my girlfriend was poking around online and she was just talking to me yesterday about the Indian Rock Inn. This must be a sign! Vincent, where did you take a cruise? Is this expensive? And how long are these cruises, and where do they go? We'd definitely like to stroll around New Hope if possible, that sounds cool. In fact, it all sounds very nice. The challenge is narrowing it down. But thank you all for pitching in!!!!

There are many bed and breakfasts in Bucks County - one of the more economical ones, that is still very romantic, is the Indian Rock Inn in Upper Black Eddy. It has a beautiful view of the river, and a drive down River Road will bring you to all the antique stores your wife could wish for. I don't recommend the restaurant, but there are also many of those to choose among, depending on your price range. The Black Bass is wonderful, and is also right on the river. If price is not an issue and you prefer all the modern comforts you might want to try the Golden Plough which is in Peddler's Village and has rooms with fireplaces and whirlpool baths - very romantic! And Peddler's Village is fun, there are several antique stores among the others, and very nice restaurants. My one other suggestion would be the Barley Sheaf bed and breakfast, beautiful, romantic and lovely old place -- if I remember right, back "in the day" the Marx Brothers were guests of the owner, playwright and producer George S. Kaufman.

My wife and I celebrated our 25th anniversary at the Bridgeton House and then two months later when we had more time we took a cruise. The Bridgeton House was all my wifes idea but she was right and it was great, I felt like a barron.

Mr. Kipper, before my son and future daughter-in-law had children, they used to spend weekends in Doylestown. I do not remember where they stayed, but I can say that Doylestown has grown over the years. Still, the old Quaker buildings remain, with their beautiful stone work.

More recently, their son (my grandson) and his girlfriend have stayed at the Bowman's inn, in New Hope. New Hope is charming, with many charming shops and restaurants.

My husband and I ate at the Golden Pheasant Inn in New Hope and in the Railroad Station restaurant across the river in Lambertville. They were a little pricey for me, a Depression-era girl, but the food and the romantic surroundings made me feel like a 20-year-old again !!!

Yo Pennsylvania!!

I want to take my girlfriend on a nice romantic weekend for Columbus Day, and I'm thinking Bucks County maybe, cozy country inn kind of thing, she's really into the whole antiquing/quilting/craftsy scene. I could really use some suggestions for where to go, where to stay, nice restaurants, etc., again with an emphasis on ROMANTIC.

Any ideas??

Vincent, there are a lot of businesses in Gettysburg with similar names. I think the wax museum you're describing is the American Civil War Museum on Steinwehr Street.
