America's Most Walkable Cities

WalkScore.com just computed NYC to be America's most walkable city. #2 - #10 (with their scores) are
  • San Francisco, 84.9

  • Boston, 79.2

  • Chicago, 74.3

  • Philadelphia, 74.1

  • Seattle, 73.7

  • Washington, D.C., 73.2

  • Miami, 72.5

  • Minneapolis, 69.3

  • Oakland, 68.2

Are you surprised by any of this? Would you have switched some other cities (Portland, OR? San Diego?) into the Top Ten list and maybe moved some of these (Oakland?) out?

  • I'm surprised San Francisco is so close to the top - it's certainly walkable but those hills can be killer! ;)

  • There is no surprise about NYC. Look at how many walkathons we have :) It is about an hour and change to walk from Central Park to Battery Park, now that the bicycle path has opened up on West Side (dunno if it's safer with them cyclists :) )
  • I wouldnt put san diego on the list but I would put your city toronto there. Toronto is not US but who cares.
