Cathedral Square, Christchurch´s downtown hub

Christchurch’s main square serves as a hangout for the people of the city. In the evening, it comes especially alive and is bustling with street performers. Check out the ruins of the Christchurch Cathedral, destroyed in the devastating earthquake of 2011. Another attraction is the Chalice, a large piece of modern sculpture in the form of an inverted cone and attracts a lot of photographers. There is also a huge board of chess at the square.
