As soon as you set foot in Austria‘s fourth largest city, near the German border three hours west of Vienna, music is in the air. Dating back to Celtic settlements of the 5th century BC, followed by Roman Juvavum, Salzburg today is Austria’s city of castles, gardens, sweet, tempting delicacies, and music - especially that of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, the city´s most famous native son, and in 2025, also The Sound of Music, filmed here and whose release 50 years ago has been celebrated in various ways.
