The main branch of the National Museum of the American Indian is actually part of the national capital's Smithsonian Institution, with more than 800,000 items and a native foods café. In addition to its amazing permanent collection, there are plenty of innovative temporary exhibitions showcasing some of today's top First Nations artists and a calendar of public programmes, including concerts, festivals, symposiums and theater.
