On a low hill on the outskirts of town, the Grenselandmuseet showcases the unique character of corner of Finnmark, Norway´s northernmost county, close to Finland and especially Russia, just a few miles to the east. The flashiest exhibits relate to the region´s role in World War II (picutred here), but even more interesting for me were the depictions of local Sami history and culture, and a look at its 19th and 20th-century, including the early-20th-century population boom when the A/S Sydvaranger mining company came it. Plus I scored a artsy, stylish reindeer plate at the gift shop lol.
