About halfway down the country of Tunisia, its largest Tunisian oasis town in the Jerid region is also one of Tunisia's most charming, with winding streets, characteristic brickwork, and vast date palm groves. It's so striking it has been used to film movies including The English Patient, Raiders of the Lost Ark and of course several Star Wars flicks. Winter is a lovely time to visit, thanks to the mild weather and the date harvest.
