The UNESCO World Heritage historic core of Vilnius

Around 3.6 square kilometres, with 70 streets and nearly 1,500 buildings with architecture including Gothic, Renaissance, (especially) Baroque, and neoclassical, it dates back to 1387. Its main artery is Pilies Gatvé (Pilies Street), lined with shops, cafés, and street markets; the central squares are Katedros Aikšté (Cathedral Square) and Rotušés Aikšté (Town Hall Square); and top landmarks include the Vilnius Castle complex (dating back to the 10th century, with the city´s iconic Gediminas Tower and 15th-century onetime Palace of the Grand Dukes of Lithuania); a number of handsome palaces; some 19 churches and a monastery; and the National Museum of Lithuania
