With fewer than 6,000 residents, this capital on the Rhine has a very small-town feel as well as a number of landmarks and sites of interest to visitors - such as, in the north of town, Mitteldorf with traditional architecture including the 14th-century gabled Rotes Haus (Red House) - which by the way is privately owned and not open for visits.
