Tripoli's 'Red Castle'

Located on the waterfront adjacent to Tripoli's old town and medina, As Sarraya al-Hamr (known as the Red Castle because parts of it are painted red) was built as a fortress during the rule of the Byzantine Empire before the Arab invasions of the mid-7th century. Today it's home to the national museum of archaeology, and visitors can roam its maze of alleys, courtyards, and houses.
