Thousands of these majestic, endangered creatures, including leatherbacks and hawksbills,come ashore to built nests and lay eggs each year from March through August along 90-mile Shell Beach, located in the northwest near the border with Venezuela, and named for its crushed-shell sands. Visiting with tour operators out of Georgtown, you can also experience coastal villages such as Bagotville, with their Afro-Guyanese, Indian, Amerindian, and even a spot of Portuguese cultural influences.
