Arguably no city in Italy -- and almost none in the rest of the world, for that matter -- is as famously and gorgeously sui generis as Venezia, what with all those fetching canals, islands, bridges, and architecture. Sure it can be touristy, sure it can also be pricey. But it's a must-do -- and doable without breaking la banca! And as long as you're in the area, there are some wonderful things to do in see here in north Italy's larger Veneto region, from the lovely small cities of Verona and Padua to the countryside's lakes, vineyards, Alpine ski resorts, and Palladian villas.
