Libya's magnificent Roman ruins of Leptis Magna

Located near the town of Khoms just under two hours east of capital Tripoli and founded by the Phoenicians in the 7th century BCE, this ancient city was a major population center of the Carthaginian and later Roman empire. Today it's a UNESCO World Heritage Site which is among the best preserved archaeological ruins in the Mediterranean.
