It's perched on top of a long flight of steps, which in the summer become the city’s favorite public bench: a place to have some fresh Finnish strawberries and catch street buskers doing their thing. With a Greek-cross layout, its interior is elegant but simple…

Finland's ephemeral winter lake art

An architect-designer in southern Finland has returned to a frozen lake with a snow shovel to draw a large animal on the ice for the sixth year in a row, creating an artwork that he hopes will “make people happy and encourage them to go out to hike in a beautiful nature.”  Great stuff, I hope he does it again next year so I can go see it!  Read the article here.

Muoinio cited in '7 Top Spots to Spot the Aurora Borealis'

Northern Lights, also known as Aurora Borealis are one of the most breathtaking sights one can ever experience. It is not at all easy to spot the northern lights, however the best time to see them is from late September to late March. During these months, the nights are longest and skies are darkest. Seeing the…

  • kuusamo sunrise

After the long, dark winter months in Kuusamo, northern Finland, the bright summer days are real tonic to the soul. And the amount of light we get is incredible. At the end of May it’s already light for 24 hours a day, although the sun does officially set for around two and a half hours.
