Reachable by air via the town of Tivat (ten minutes away) and an increasingly popular cruise ship port of call, this historic town of around 14,000 dates back to Roman times, and its old town is part of not one but two UNESCO World Heritage Sites, the "Natural and Culturo-Historical Region of Kotor" and the multinational "Venetian Works of Defense between the 16th and 17th Centuries" (indeed, for hundreds of years Italian was the main language here). In addition to its history and its summer cultural offering, there are a number of both sandy and pebbly beaches near town. Another fun fact: Kotor is also known for its large cat population (there's even a museum dedicated to them)
