marketing for ecotourism initiatives

Dear All,

We would be interested to hear you views on marketing solutions for small ecotourism initiatives and community projects on tight budgets.

In our experience, this has always been one of the major problems hindering the success of such operations.

It is for this reason we were driven to create muchbetteradventures.com - free, no commission membership to all operations who meet our criteria. This allows them to access a commercially competitive marketing platform and get in direct contact with adventure seekers through a variety of means including directory, e-mag and destination guides.

Your comments and ideas on this and other ideas/ways to resolve the marketing dilemma would be very interesting.

Thanks

Alex

  • Hey Thomas,

Yes, it is particularly difficult for areas with little internet connectivity to compete in todays travel market. Hopefully we can level the playing field over time. Would be great to hear other peoples experiences on this...

    Keep it up!

    Hi Alex,

We are trying to resolve the same kind of issue in the geographical region of West Africa. West Africa Discovery aims to provide marketing opportunities to small and medium scale sustainable tourism projects through various marketing strategies. We also have a set of criteria that our clients have to meet before being listed on the website, and as soon as they are listed we take care of marketing their tours, accommodations and volunteer projects to a wider market though effective marketing strategies.

West Africa, unfortunately, does not have a developed internet infrastructure and therefore it is difficult for low budget tourism businesses to use the World Wide Web to promote their projects. That is why we decided to solve this problem by offering our services.

We also hope to create a community whereby tour operators, accommodation oweners and tourism professionals from West African countries can discuss ideas, solve problems and inspire each other to develop the responsible tourism concept.

I wish you success in your project, and hope to see you soon at another Fringe meeting.
