Colourful houses in Greenland's capital Nuuk

With a population of just under 19,000, Greenland's largest settlement - and the world's northernmost capital - was founded in 1728 by a Norwegian missionary on a fjord near the island's southern tip. These days it offers visitors a selection of interesting museums, restaurants (some gourmet level), shopping, and of course tours to visit the country's singular ecological and cultural heritage.
