The Caribbean's last significant population of pre-Columbian people, just over 2.100 of them reside on a 3,700 reserve on the east coast, and visitors can meet them and learn about their culture at the 16-year-old Kalinago Barana Aute model village, a 90-minute drive from capital Roseau. You can also take Kalinago-guided tours of their territory including hiking and climbing - from short hikes to overnight stays in simple cottages.
