The Trabant is a primitive "plastic shoebox" car churned out by the defunct German Democratic Republic for 30 years, but not all of them have completely disappeared. You can even rent one to tool around town from an outfit called Trabi Safari,with which we took a short "Trabi Safari" on our last visit. Manual transmission, of course - and a particularly primitive one, at that. Drab, stinky and clunky - but an unforgettable experience for sure. Ja, those were the days, mein Freund!
