Least changed of the ex-Soviet-bloc countries to some extent economically but especially politically (misruled as it is by the last dictatorship in Europe, the régime of Alexandr Lukashenko, which brutally suppressed protests against in in 2020-21), "White Russia" is worth a visit if you're in the neighborhood, with unspoiled nature, castles, and a surprisingly lively social/cultural scene in capital Minsk.

Having said that, both from a moral and a practical safety standpoint we at this time urge against travel to Belarus for the foreseeable future, due to its participation in the unprovoked invasion by Russia of Ukraine in late February 2020.
