The allure: Futuristic architecture, fabulous food, tropical gardens, multicultural neighborhoods and one of Asia’s coolest skylines.

Few major destinations make independent travel with a disability as straightforward as Singapore. Its public buses and MRT/LRT trains are wheelchair accessible, rail stations and bus interchanges provide barrier-free routes, and accessible bus stops are widespread. Tactile paving, wheelchair-accessible toilets, Braille signage, priority boarding areas and assistance for passengers with visual, hearing and cognitive disabilities are increasingly integrated into the transportation system. Smooth sidewalks and modern infrastructure eliminate many of the obstacles encountered in older cities, while major attractions and hotels generally offer excellent access. Singapore demonstrates the considerable advantage of incorporating universal accessibility into relatively modern infrastructure rather than having to retrofit it centuries later.
