Sometimes even living in a nation with arguably one of the best cuisines on the planet, I still crave something other than delicous tacos and some of the freshest sea food on the planet. After all, variety is the spice of life.

Table with a view

On Puerto Vallarta's malecón (boardwalk) lies one of the my favorite Italian restaurants in the world, La Dolce Vita.  Yes, I could eat Mexican food on a daily basis if I had to. However, we all have a place that we call home. As pizza and pasta aficionado, nowhere else in Puerto Vallarta does pizza rule than La Dolce Vita.

The foods of Northern Italy are presented here in a pleasant, lively atmosphere. Both floors of this restaurant provide an ocean view. The menu ranges from flavorful, inexpensive pizzas, handmade and cooked in the brick oven, to the traditional chicken cacciatore and a deluxe osso bucco. Steaks are cooked to perfection. Desserts include Italian gelato and tiramisu (among others), and the bar provides both Italian, Argentian, Chilean wines and Italian liqueurs like limoncello.  I still come for my pizza fix.
It's not just Pizza - For me, It's "Pizza Love."
I order the quattro stagioni - tomato, mozzarella, olives, mushrooms, artichoke hearts, ham.

La Dolce Vita on the malecón will not only tempt you with pizza and homemade pasta, but the antipasti are to die for. Start with a fresh octopus or salmon carpaccio.

If you love steak try the costata a la fiorentina. My wife orders a di mare linguine with a nice combination of mussels, clams, shrimp in a tomato sauce that is not even on the menu.

No matter how busy it can be - Eugenio, will always find time for me. I like to eat at restaurants where I become friends with the owners.

Come early or expect to wait in line. Even in the summer, low season, La Dolce Vita can be very busy.

As the song goes "where everybody knows your name and they're always glad you came." Eugenio and his staff will treat you like gold. You will feel right at home at La Dolce Vita.

Sunset  view complete with Puerto Vallarta pirate boat directly in front of La Dolce Vita.

If you want to see a breathtaking sunset in an inviting Italian atmosphere, then you must pay a visit to La Dolce Vita.
