A tour to discover cork (in Portugal, not the Irish city)

When we booked the "Algarve jeep safari," they promised a tour to the interior to show there was more to Portugal's southernmost region than beaches, bars and golf courses. We passed through remote villages; stopped off at a couple of out-of-the-way places for a coffee break and lunch; visited a distillery; and finally stopped in a cork oak grove, where Tomás our guide gave an interesting presentation. At home, I usually drink wine in a screwtop bottle. I know there’s a bit of controversy…

  • PYRAMIDS luxury tour
Cairo, the Egyptian capital, is one of the most vibrant and historic cities in the Middle East and an ideal destination for an exotic long weekend. What can surpass the opportunity of gazing on the face of the Sphinx, then enjoying a camel ride at the pyramids, followed by seeing the incredible golden treasures of the Pharaoh Tutankhamen? While on the Pyramids Sojourn you will also walk through the bustling labyrinthine medieval bazaars of Khan el Khalili – a riot of colour and an oriental shoppers delight - and visiting the ancient lanes, monuments of Coptic Cairo, known as Babylon in Roman times. In our opinion these experiences are virtually unmatchable. The itinerary is privately escorted throughout and has been designed to give you the right mix of sightseeing and leisure.9012356870?profile=originaltravel to Egypt

  • Hello fellow explorers! Dropping by to announce our new project, Write/Peace, has just been accepted by Kickstarter, an online crowdfunding site for creative projects.

An overview of the project >> A specially selected team of writers will work with journalists from around the world to explore and write about important trends in tourism and how these trends impact social and economic lives both locally and globally. Together, they will create a series of long-form, narrative stories that will be published over the course of one year. The aim of these stories is to promote a greater understanding of how the six-trillion-dollar Travel and Tourism industry impacts local societies and the global economy.

Any and all support is greatly appreciated. If you like what you are reading here and want to learn more, please take a moment to review our Kickstarter project page: http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1501131842/write-peace

    Thank you, happy travels!!

Feedback is always welcome, feel free to PM me directly.

  • Thanks Barbara and Tolene

Tolene the Van der Merwe sounds very Afrikaans.  You’re not a ex pat by chance? We had a very successful fund raising event last, largely due to the support of the Safari Industry role players. We can’t thank them enough for opening their hearts and pockets to fund ongoing projects to save Rhinos.

Wilderness also contributed a large sum of money in conjunction with EcoTraining to support the ear notching project in the northern part of Kruger as well as the DNA project. Hopefully the DNA samples will help Identify poachers at the point of sale (it’s difficult to link the killing to the buyers at this stage, but we are getting there)

Glad to hear that so many people are doing good things to help.

  • This is so amazing to see. Someday I hope to visit in person. Lovely!
