At home, I usually drink wine in a screwtop bottle. I know there’s a bit of controversy…

  • press release: $899 City Steals to Europe Are Real Deals; Roundtrip Air Plus Three Nights Hotel in Vienna, Prague OR Budapest

August 2010: Looking for a real deal to travel to Europe later this year? Here are three spectacularly-priced vacation packages that include roundtrip air from New York or Washington plus three nights hotel in either Vienna (www.austrianair-vacations.com/vie3), Prague (www.austrianair-vacations.com/prg3) or Budapest (www.austrianair-vacations.com/bud3). At $899 per person, double occupancy, these City Steals are valid for travel during November, including Thanksgiving, or in the first three months of 2011 – perfect for a long weekend get-away or an early spring break!

These vacation packages, offered by Austrian Airlines Vacation Center (www.austrianair-vacations.com), include roundtrip economy class air transportation from either New York (JFK) or Washington, DC (IAD), three nights hotel accommodation in either Vienna, Prague OR Budapest, daily buffet breakfast, hotel service charges and hotel taxes. They are valid for travel any day of the week between November 1 – 29, 2010 (Vienna) or November 1 – December 9, 2010 (Prague, Budapest), and again between January 4 - March 31, 2011, subject to availability. Please add $130 to the package price if you travel solo; extension nights are offered at $55 per person per night in a double, and $110 per person per night in a single room. Upgrades are available upon request, as are rates for travel during other dates. Advance reservations, at least 14 days prior to departure, are recommended.

Hotels featured in the $899 City Steals are the Clima City Hotel in Vienna, Hotel Chopin in Prague and Hotel Hungaria, Hotel Erzsebet or City Hotel Pilvax in Budapest – all three-star, superior tourist class properties.

“Vienna, Prague and Budapest are all splendid vacation destinations year-round,” notes Bram Majtlis, President of Austrian Airlines Vacation Center. “Come explore Europe’s exciting past as well as its vibrant present, and enjoy great food, magnificent museums and breathtaking architecture. And remember, when you travel during the low season, your travel dollars will go even further!”

One of the outstanding features of any of Austrian Airlines’ vacation packages is their flexibility: you can stay in Europe up to 30 days, and use the consecutive hotel nights at the beginning or the end of your trip. Furthermore, one optional stopover in Vienna is allowed, so if you select a City Steal beyond Vienna, extra days in Vienna may be added. Of course, additional hotel accommodations are extra.

All City Steals must be paid in full within 7 days after reservations are confirmed, and no later than 14 days prior to departure. Once confirmed, the packages are non-refundable, non-transferable, and cannot be changed. All packages will be booked on Austrian Airlines in economy class and are subject to schedule and space availability. Minimum stay is 3 nights or one Saturday overnight, and the maximum stay in Europe is 30 days. City Steals package prices include fuel surcharges but do not include US Customs / INS / Aphis fees / International Transportation Tax / Passenger Facility Charges / Civil Aviation Security Fee / domestic and foreign Security and Airport Charges of approximately USD $160 per passenger, depending on the itinerary. Additional taxes and fees may be collected by foreign governments. All taxes / fees / surcharges are subject to change and exchange rate fluctuations and may vary on the day of booking.

Further details may be found on www.austrianair.com or www.austrianair-vacations.com. For additional information or to make reservations, contact Austrian Airlines Vacation Center at (800) 790-4682, or via email: info@austrianair-vacations.com.

  • Just as I turned on the radio this morning, I heard a report that consumer spending is down for almost everything. A real yawn, but the report also said that spending is up for travel.

That sure isn't what I'd been hearing. What do you know? And can anyone source this story?
