Read more…Eileen Tan/Dreamstime.com Google recently released its list of its most popular searches during 2022, and when it comes to scenic spots in the United States there are some surprises. For starters, “scenic spots” in Google’s definition does not include iconic places like Vermont’s Technicolor White Mountains in fall or the yawning Grand Canyon in Arizona (and by the waym more about canyons later). The number of times I've lugged a tripod along, and not used it are almost balanced by the number of times I've wished I'd brought along a tripod, and had to find a rock or something to steady the camera.
Now, whether I take a tripod or not, I usually have one of those little 'table top' tripods in my camera bag, just in case!
I certainly need a tripod for long exposures such as this.
One of my favorite photo effects is water motion blur.
This is not possible without a tripod, especially when using 20 or 30 second exposures.

Sarah - what wonderful photos in your white Light Gallery - in fact on your entire site.
Where is Australia were the White Light images taken?
I didn't realise that there was a photography group on Tripatini, so this is a wonderful surprise.
I am from New Zealand, presently holiday in Queensland Australia, where devastatingly my SLR developed a fault so has been unusable. Horrors with such fantastic opportunities. Have resorted to my iphone camera! Better than nothing!
Attached is a shot of my home area landscape, Te Mata Peak Hawke's Bay New Zealand, just to tempt you to visit down-under. Te Mata Peak is an earthquake thrust causing spectacular vistas. Sea shells are imbedded in the rocks, proof that it was once under the sea.
I have just published a new collection of images from Sydney, Melbourne and Perth from my recent visit to Australia in April. Click the link to view the full gallery. Images can be made available to accompany travel articles - please contact me with any enquiries.
