  • Total Solar Eclipse 2013

Our site to observe the 2013 Total Solar Eclipse will be just north of the Murchison Falls National Park in Uganda, based at a magnificent historical lodge on the banks of the Victoria Nile in the National Park.

    9012369068?profile=original

In addition to our eclipse observation, the programme offers an opportunity to visit some of the world’s most interesting wildlife regions. We offer a rare chance to track gorillas and  chimpanzees through the impenetrable forests or you can go on a Safari in the national parks.

This is an action-packed adventure programme, crowned by a total solar eclipse low over remote villages of northern Uganda. It is sure to be a memorable experience.

We have a 6 day option as well as a extended option that includes Gorilla tracking and much more.

31st October – Arrival Uganda.  On arrival transfer to our hotel in Entebbe overlooking Lake Victoria.

1st November - A full day journey through Uganda countryside from Kampala, passing through small towns and villages with views of everyday life in this remote corner of Africa.  Late afternoon we reach Paraa Safari Lodge, an historical holiday retreat on the banks of  the Nile in Murchison Falls National Park.  Time to indulge in "sun downer" drinks on the terrace overlooking the Nile before dinner.

2nd November - Full day tour of Murchison Falls National Park today.  The falls are on the Victoria Branch of the River Nile, this drains the outfall from Lake Victoria before joining a branch from Lake Albert and continuing for almost 4,000 km to Egypt.  At the falls, the Victoria Nile passes through a gorge less than 10m wide at a rate of up to 300 cu/m a second.

The region has seen very little tourism over the past decades and has been reclaimed by the wildlife with a balance of natural order largely restored.  Elephants, giraffe and hippo's have benefited particularly.  Our route will take us through the length of the Park, along the game tracks leading to the falls.  During the tour we have a boat trip to see the lower part of the falls and (if you are reasonably fit...) you can climb to the top of the falls.

3rd November Eclipse Day. Morning at leisure to relax or explore the vicinity of the Lodge with the many different examples of African animals and birds.  This afternoon we travel to the eclipse track, which is north of the lodge.  We have three possible locations for the observation site and final choice will be made at the time depending on the local weather conditions.

4th November   Morning free to enjoy the wildlife and flora around the lodge, then re-join our safari vehicles for the journey across rural Uganda to Kampala.

5th November - At leisure in Kampala before joining your return flight.
