A quick look at the best of the "Out Islands"

Bahamas.com While most visitors to the Bahamas tend to stick to Nassau (New Providence) or Paradise Island, and perhaps Freeport on Grand Bahama—which of course means these destinations can and do get pretty crowded at times—the real magic of this 700-island archipelago lies beyond, in its “Out Islands.” Scattered across crystalline waters, easily accessible from Nassau yet worlds away in atmosphere, these are the Bahamas at its most authentic: serene, natural, and stunningly beautiful. Each…

Four Seasons’ Ocean Club on Paradise Island one of '9 of the Most Romantic Hotels for Valentine's Day in the Caribbean'

Palm Island Resort     These tropical isles usually rank high on the list of V-Day getaways, and offer an embarassment of riches when it comes to hotels and resorts. So this year a freelancer put together for USA Today a list of nine for couples to consider for a romantic Valentine's weekend. You may not agree with all of them - and, indeed, I find the list skews too much toward bigger resorts and largely ignores charming smaller inns, but I can attest to one, Palm Island (above) in…

The top 10 Bahamian bucket list

This is an archipelago of some 700 islands, cays, and islets, although 2/3 of Bahamians live on New Providence island (the location of Nassau) and half of the remaining third on Grand Bahama island. Even so, that leaves a lot of potential alluring spots to visit. • Oh, and I should mention a recent Skylights (Spirit Airlines) article, a blog here on lo-net, and several more regional articles to come. So really, how many more assignments does it take? I'm beginning to feel as though there's a conspiracy against me (and that's not as paranoid as it sounds.) Thanks for your feedback and sympathy.
  • FYI, that was last week, so yes I've been down recently and need to do more research to complete my book. It's not really paying.
  • Yes, Chelle. The DOT notoriously has been one of the more difficult island organizations, no matter which PR firm they retain. So I share your frustration. The more assignments, the better the response. And gee, isn't that what we all want anyway ? David's idea re: securing airfare via "newer" carriers' PR people is sound. As far as on-island logistics, sometimes sympathetic hoteliers will arrange a driver for a day or two.
